Why do you have to be a member of this site?
The answer is simple: To stop spam!
Unfortunately, if I made it to where anybody could post comments on this site, the spammers would have a hay-day. Instead of being able to answer your questions, I would be spending most of my time trying to deal with all of the non-sensical messages the spammers would leave on my computer at night.
I tried that once when I first got this site started, and you wouldn't believe all of the junk they left on my computer.
You ask why they do it? Mostly so that their nasty pornographic sites can get higher rankings/ratings in the search engines by leaving links to their sites on unsuspecting pages.
I hope one day someone will learn of a way to stop such non-sense, but until then legitimate sites, such as this, will have to make it as difficult for them as possible by blocking them with member-only sites, catcha codes and so forth.
So please forgive me if I seem to put pressure on you for joining as it is not my intention to try to make you feel obligated or anything, but only to try to protect you, my guests, and to protect my computer as well.
